Third Day in Kuala Lumpur

We started our day with a return trip to Central Market to complain about Christina's new watch that had stopped after 6 hours. Before we took off for the market we decided to book a City Tour for the afternoon. At the travel desk we met 3 more Swedes and they were also going on the same trip. Christina's watch got a new battery and is still working.

After the market we went to the Italian coffe shop for a bite to eat before our sight seeing trip. We were picked up at the hotel and it was only us 5 Swedes on the tour, which was great. First stop was at the Royal Palace. It turns out that they have 9 "kings" in Malaysia and they take turns every 5 years to be king!

Next stop was at Thean Hou Chinese Temple. Ninni and I had our fortunes told. Not very exciting, but the temple was nice. It was raining quite hard on and off so if it was raining we didn't stop. After the temple we went to a place where they showed us how they make hand painted batik. That is one of the specialties of Malaysia. After the batik place we were taken to a pewter factory - Royal Selangor which was founded in 1885 and is the world's largest pewter factory. They export to 20 different countries and much of the work is done by hand. Our final stop was at the National Monument, which is there to honor all the soldiers that have died in the wars.

After the sight seeing we went back to the hotel for a little rest and then we went to a steakhouse for dinner, followed by coffee and cake at Starbucks. Oh, between the Central Market and sight seeing we had time for a little shopping (shoes).I am eating far too much!

  1. Sounds lovely and very relaxed. The Royal Sengalor pewter factory would have been a highlight for me since I work with Swedish pewter products and would love to custom design and cast pewter details for my bracelets. I hope their pewter is lead and nickel free.
Is there a SWEA trip before or after the world meeting that you are going on?
We had a bit of snow here in Boston today but no accumulation. Warm rain in Malaysia sounds a lot better than cold snow in Boston.
Do you know if Kärran finally made it from LA? She has been stuck for days due to flight cancellations after the earthquake in Japan. I think she has now unfortunately missed the two days she had planned to spend in Hongkong before going to Kuala Lumpur.
